HVAC Ads by Season: What to Run in Winter, Summer, and the Slow Months

By James Pelton · JPWeb · Websites for HVAC companies

HVAC ads don't work the same all year, because your customers don't want the same thing all year. In the first cold snap, people search for a fix right now. In April, almost nobody's thinking about their furnace. An ad that makes sense in one of those weeks wastes money in the other.

Here's what to run in each season, and what to stop running. It's about ads specifically. If you're looking for the free side (posts, reviews, texting past customers), that's in the seasonal HVAC marketing guide.

Early fall: tune-ups before the first cold night

This is the window most shops miss. Before it gets cold, people aren't searching "furnace repair" yet, but they'll respond to a reminder that their furnace hasn't been checked.

Winter: be there when the heat goes out

When the first real cold hits, the searches change to "furnace repair," "no heat," and "emergency heating repair near me." These people are calling someone in the next hour. Your job is to be the one they see.

Spring: the quiet season, so spend less and plan

Spring is the slow stretch for a lot of shops. Nobody's heat is out and it isn't hot enough for AC yet. Heavy ad spending here mostly buys clicks from people who aren't ready.

Summer: AC repair, same playbook as winter

The first heat wave works just like the first cold snap, only the searches are "AC repair," "AC not cooling," and "emergency AC repair." Turn search ads and the call button back up, keep your ads to the hours your phones get answered, and pause the tune-up offers once the repair calls are coming in.

Late summer: another shoulder season

When the heat breaks, calls drop off again. This is a good time to push maintenance plans and replacement quotes, and to line up your fall tune-up ads so they're ready the day you need them.

The one thing that matters every season

Every ad sends someone to a page, and that page decides whether they call. If a winter "furnace repair" ad sends people to your homepage with a slider and a mission statement, you paid for a click that didn't go anywhere. Send each ad to the page that matches it: furnace ads to your furnace repair page, AC ads to your AC page, with your phone number at the top. Here's what goes on each of those pages, and here's when ads make sense versus SEO in the first place.

Before you spend on ads this winter, make sure the site they send people to is ready. The free checker scores your HVAC website on speed, mobile, SEO, and trust in about a minute.

I'm James. I build and manage websites for HVAC companies, with nothing upfront, so the pages your ads point to are ready to take the call. But whether you work with me or not, match your ads to the season and send each one to the right page. That's most of the battle.
